After a comeback win against No.14 ranked William and Mary Sept. 24, Elon football is now ranked No. 23 in the Football Championship Subdivision rankings.
The FCS is made up of 14 conferences, including Elon’s conference, the Colonial Athletic Association, in addition to the Big Sky, Big South, Independent, Ivy League, Mid-Eastern Athletic, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Pioneer, Southern, Southland and Southwestern Athletic conferences.
FCS teams, like Elon, are only allowed to give financial scholarships to 63 players each year, as opposed to the Football Bowl Subdivision’s 85 yearly scholarships.
No. 23 ranked Elon will face No. 22 ranked Richmond Oct. 1 at Rhodes Stadium for family weekend. The Phoenix come in 3-1 facing the Spiders and is looking to secure another win and advance in the rankings.
The Phoenix is led by freshman running back Jalen Hampton who ran for 145 yards and three touchdowns against William and Mary Saturday.
