In its second game of the day at the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament, the Elon University baseball team had its season ended with a 6-1 loss against No. 1 seed College of Charleston Cougars.

Elon defeated the University of North Carolina Wilmington Seahawks earlier in the afternoon and had less than an hour before beginning its second game, while this was Charleston’s first game of the day.

Redshirt sophomore Cam Seguin started at pitcher for Elon. However, he did not make it through the first inning, as Charleston scored four runs in the frame, all against Seguin, who recorded just two outs.

A sacrifice fly in the fourth inning by redshirt freshman shortstop Will Vergantino scored redshirt junior Luke Stephenson to make the score 4-1, but the Phoenix did not score again.

The Cougars added a run in both the fifth and eighth innings to stretch its lead and retired Elon’s batters in order in the ninth to seal a victory and advance.

Elon totaled just four hits for the game and was 0-5 at the plate with runners in scoring position.

With the loss, Elon’s season is over, as the team finishes with a 27-28 record and an 0-4 record against Charleston, who outscored Elon 28-6 in their four meetings. Charleston is one of three teams remaining in the double-elimination tournament, along with Northeastern University and Hofstra University.
