After three years each on the Elon University men’s basketball team, junior guards Zac Ervin and Hunter Woods have entered the transfer portal.

Though the two players have entered their names into the transfer portal, it is not a guarantee they will leave Elon, or that they will get an offer to play elsewhere. They have simply been granted a release so that other schools may contact them if interested. The drawback for student athletes is if they enter their name into the portal, their current institution is able to take away the athlete’s scholarship the term after they enter their name into the portal.

After missing his sophomore year due to injury, Ervin could leave the Phoenix with 427 career points and 96 made three pointers. This year, he was the second on the team with 50 made three point shots. Ervin also doubled his rebounding total from his freshman year, collecting 94 rebounds, the fourth highest on the team.

Woods started in all but one game in his freshman year and was named to the Colonial Athletic Association’s All-Rookie Team as well as receiving rookie of the week honors in December 2019. He ended the 2021 season as the team’s fourth highest scorer, and the team’s top rebounder, securing 130 rebounds by the end of the season. This year he played in all but one game, starting 13, and clocked in the third highest minutes of anyone on the team. He was second in rebounds behind center Michael Graham. He was the top sixth scorer of the team. In total, he has earned 676 points in his career thus far.
