Graham City Council voted to temporarily suspend the event-approval process — a procedure usually done through a government-appointed committee designed to make decisions around approving or denying protest permits.

The council members called a special meeting on Feb. 23 and specified that the suspension will last until the council can rewrite ordinances to add clarity on the council’s involvement in the event approval process.

Until then, council members said they will not approve any event permits and provided no timeframe for when the ordinances will be updated.
