In March, Elon’s volleyball season came to an end with two losses to the College of Charleston Cougars. However, the Phoenix avenged those defeats on Friday, Sept. 17, earning a four set road win over the Cougars in its first Colonial Athletic Association match.

After dropping the first set, Elon handled the next two sets comfortably, and pulled out a tough fourth set to complete the win.

Senior setter Haylie Clark posted a double-double for the Phoenix with a career high 52 assists along with 11 digs. Clark had all but four of the team's 56 assists and had more than College of Charleston’s combined 44.

This is the second match this season that Clark had at least 40 assists, as she set her previous career high with 42 against Virginia Tech on Aug. 28.

The Phoenix had an efficient offensive game, besting the Cougars in assists, kills and hitting percentage. Senior outside hitter Leah Daniel recorded 22 kills for Elon, putting her just three kills away from 1,000 for her career. Freshman outside hitter Sydney Love continued her stellar play with 11 kills and senior middle blocker Natalie Cummins added 10 kills to eclipse 300 for her career.

While the Phoenix had an efficient offensive outing, they shined on defense as well. Junior middle blocker Jenn Krzeminski tied her season high in blocks with seven, while junior libero Jordan Gower led the Phoenix with a season-high 21 digs.

With this win, the Phoenix improved to 6-5 in the season. The team will move forward in CAA play on Saturday, Sept. 18 when they face the Cougars again. The match is set to begin at 4 p.m.
