The Alamance County Rescue Unit will host an open house event for the public to celebrate 60 years of continuous service to the citizens of Alamance County. The event will take place on April 30th, 2016 and be held at the Alamance County Rescue Unit located at 110 W. McAden St. in Graham. The celebration will begin at 11:00 am and last until 3:00 pm that afternoon. A free hotdog and hamburger lunch will be included for those in attendance as well as special events for kids and families such as a dunking booth, clown entertainment and bounce houses.

The Alamance County Rescue Unit is excited to host this special event recognizing their 60 years of service. ACRU began serving Alamance County in 1956 and originally opened its doors as Graham Rescue soon changing to the Alamance County Rescue Unit as its service area became broader. Since then, ACRU has managed to evolve into Alamance County's primary source for specialized rescue services.

The ACRU provides many services, all of which are vital to the citizens, business owners and those passing through our County each day. Services such as heavy vehicle extrication, dive rescue, water rescue, high and low angle rope rescue, confined space rescue, patient transport services, K-9 land search rescue and specialty rehabilitation services for all Alamance County Fire Service agencies are available and ready to respond each day.

To date the ACRU is 65 members strong. They house and respond a total of 9 specialized rescue vehicles and 6 specialty rescue boats. They are staffed from 8:00 am through 5:00 pm, 7 days a week as the County's call volume has increased requiring a more frequent response of rescue services. Last year ACRU responded to more than 1,000 calls for service in an effort to help maintain a safe community environment to everyone in Alamance County.

We invite everyone to join with us in our exciting celebration of 60 wonderful years of service to Alamance County.
