Stephanie Butzer Interning with Creative Loafing in Atlanta Class of 2014; current A&E senior reporter for The Pendulum

When it came to internship applications, I was doing a good handful a day. I wanted to do something cooler this summer. When I saw Creative Loafing, a newsmagazine in Atlanta, was accepting interns I leapt at the opportunity … a week late. After reading the description, I was bummed out I had missed such an awesome window. I e-mailed the intern supervisor at CL and asked if I could still apply and that my late application didn’t reflect laziness or forgetfulness. I got lucky and she gave me a chance to apply and interview. A month later, I got an email saying she would like to accept me into the CL team as the music intern. I was ecstatic! I now know to always apply to where you truly want to go because sometimes there is a chance you can get it.

As a music intern, I’m reaching out to a lot of venues in Atlanta and sending that information out to the public so bands and artists of all sizes can get a fair shot at a solid audience. There’s a lot of work that goes into it, but it’s been more than worth it. I can’t wait to get back to The Pendulum and apply all I’ve learned into my work at our paper.

I’ve lived outside Atlanta for over six years now and now I finally feel like I’m actually getting into the groove that can only exist in a huge Southern city.
