Jason Waterman Interning with Eurosport in Hillsborough, North Carolina Class of 2013

When I was just a child, I used to order my soccer gear from Eurosport: The Fabled Soccer Traders. I naturally assumed I was ordering from Europe, the Mecca of soccer, since I was getting the best soccer gear from the world’s largest soccer specialty retailer. That clearly wasn’t so, because more than ten years later, I am now an intern for this industry giant in its original home in Hillsborough, North Carolina.

I’m a rising senior at Elon and am a Communication Science major with a minor in leadership studies and philosophy. I’m a social media intern in the Online Properties Department at Sports Endeavors, oftentimes known simply as Eurosport or Soccer.com.

It’s been an amazing experience thus far. Just walking in the doors, the hallways are lined with framed autographed jerseys by some of the greatest players to ever live. I get to my desk and the first thing I do is get on Facebook and Twitter. Yes, the first thing I do at work is the first thing most people do when they get off work.

My main duty is to generate social media content, whether it is answering questions posted by fans or live blogging the European Championships via Twitter. Besides creating social media content, I spend time generating analytical reports and making content strategy decisions accordingly, which I personally find fascinating.

One really cool thing I got to do was help customize personal cleats for USA star Clint Dempsey. On a weekly basis, I partake in managerial meetings, help with website functionality testing and learn marketing strategy. It’s been a great start to an internship and I can only hope that this will not be my last venture at Sports Endeavors.
