If you’re a North Carolina resident and you are unable to return home to vote in the upcoming primary election May 8, you may vote using an absentee ballot. A paper ballot will be mailed to you before the election so you can vote as if you were home in your own precinct.

To get an absentee ballot, you need to send a written request to your county board of elections by 5 p.m. May 1. The address for your county board of elections can be found at NCSBE.gov and requests may also be emailed or faxed, but your signature must be included.

Be sure the ballot is postmarked on or before May 8, as the county board of elections must receive it within three days of the election for it to count.
