Phoenix tame Rams behind Evans’ big night

As senior forward Kelsey Evans had a career night, the Elon University women’s basketball team picked up it’s first win of the season with a 74-58 win over the Virginia Commonwealth University Rams in the home opener of the 2012-2013 season. Evans finished with 13 points, a career-high 17 rebounds and a career-high four assists.

Irwin signs professional soccer contract with Charlotte Eagles Former Elon University goalkeeper Clint Irwin signed with the Charlotte Eagles of the United Soccer Leagues. This is the third professional organization for Irwin, who spent a preseason with Major League Soccer’s New England Revolution and 2011 with Capital City FC in Ottawa, Canada.

Basketball season review: New bench boss sees promising future for women

Charlotte Smith wasn’t quite sure what to expect with her first head coaching gig. After Karen Barefoot left to take a job at Old Dominion, Dave Blank, Elon University Director of Athletics called upon the former Tar Heel to be the next head coach of the Phoenix. Smith took over the team in July, shortly before the team went on its European tour the following month. “With me having that European tour, it helped prepare me a lot,” Smith said.

Three Phoenix named to Media's All-SoCon team

Three members of the Elon University women's basketball team were selected to the all-conference team by members of the Southern Conference Sports Media Association today. Ali Ford's record-breaking season earned her a First Team all-conference selection for the the second time in her career.

With the season winding down, the Elon University women’s basketball team will have to work to earn any high seed it envisions for itself in the Southern Conference Tournament. The Phoenix plays Davidson College and Appalachian State University, two of the three best teams in the SoCon, on Feb.
