Many Elon University students will spend the Easter Holiday dusting pink Peeps’ powder off their fingers or dunking hardboiled eggs into bright blue dye. But for low-income families in Alamance county, the Easter Holiday comes with an additional source of pressure. April 18 marks the end of tax season, and all returns must be filed, despite a general lack of knowledge and trust of the process.

The curtain is closed and the theater dark, but right around the corner the dressing room is bursting with color and energy. Inside, the cast is getting fitted in wigs of shimmering silver, burnt orange and pale pink. Fur lines the walls on costume racks, and makeup artists and actors alike prowl in and out of dressing rooms, wielding everything from styrofoam mannequin heads to eyebrow pencils.

Three times a
year, the Elon University English Department offers students an exciting opportunity to listen
to an influential, contemporary writer from one of three major disciplines. Be
it fiction, nonfiction or poetry, Elon students are able to submit a piece of
work, which is then judged by the visiting speaker. This year’s first event featured a poetry reading by
Debra Nystrom at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 1 in Johnston Hall .

Sarah Luther is the only junior out of seniors in the class, “ART 380: Professional Practices,” but that didn’t stop her from claiming third place in this year’s Student Juried Art Exhibition (SJE). The exhibition hosted its opening reception Oct. 27 and will run through Dec. 8 in the Isabella Cannon Room.

Through the Ages: A Homecoming” is the first exhibition of its kind to be
displayed in the University Archives Exhibition Area, on the second floor of
Belk Library. The exhibition showcases Homecoming history using photographs,
scrapbooks, yearbooks, and other memorabilia from the 1950s to the present.

During guided tours through Global Neighborhood, dancers could be seen emerging from behind trees, reaching out from gazebos and pirouetting on the volleyball courts. Families and students alike gravitated toward these performers scattered throughout the neighborhood during Elon University’s Family Weekend Oct. 1.

Throughout the week, students have been stretching on stairs and doing pirouettes on the sidewalks of Global Neighborhood. Turing the heads of onlookers, they've actually gotten a sneak peek of "Dancing in the Landscape," a performing arts production that will utilize sites on campus for different sets on Oct. 1 at noon beginning in Love Terrance at the Performing Arts Department.
