New to Elon University this semester is a program that directly ties our campus’ dining initiatives with its pledge to promote sustainability — reusable to-go containers. Through this program, students with any meal plan can receive a free, or purchasable for $7 without a meal plan, reusable to-go box to use at any on-campus dining location.

As new students fill the dorms and classrooms, there is a sense of eagerness to attain an unreached potential which is known to come hand-in-hand with the college experience. Making friends, joining clubs, and doing well in classes are some of the many expectations which come with the idea of college success. However, with the excitement to thrive comes the adverse: the fear of failure.

Change is hard. It’s a universal experience that everyone faces throughout their lives; that is, the pain of letting go of who you were and accepting who you have become. From a developmental perspective, the difficulties associated with change most often show up when a person has a sudden disruption in their environment. Moving to a new state, parents getting divorced, or experiencing the death of a loved one are all moments when people feel the pain that their past is over and accept that their life is now different.

Only 16 students had elevated levels of mold in their apartments a week ago. But further testing identified this as a widespread problem on all floors of the building. The number of apartments with dangerously high levels of mold spores has gone from six to 19.

Mark your calendars! The Colonnades dining hall recently announced that it will be serving a steak and lobster dinner on Tuesday, Sept. 12. And who isn't excited for that? Steak and lobster sounds almost better than a home-cooked meal. With Elon University’s revamped dining program, the university has just about everything we could want.

Elon University's Student Union Board announced Jon Bellion as the headliner for the 2017 Homecoming Concert on Monday, according to a press release. SUB and SGA are co-sponsoring the event Nov. 4 at the Colonnades parking lot.

For all those last minute “need-to-have” items, Target comes
to the rescue. Students and families flocked to Target today to get everything
they may have forgotten at home or didn’t realize they needed. The goal was to buy
everything you need while your parents are still here so you don’t have to pay it. But after a few hours, there was minimal parking and some items sold out.

Orientation Leaders were dancing with excitement to welcome to new students to Colonnades Neighborhood. Roommates met in the parking lot behind the neighborhood residence halls, and friendships were forming over unpacking boxes and room decor decisions. Students and their families are gearing up to say, "see you later," in the next couple days.

Most freshmen living in Danieley this year moved into their on-campus apartments this morning, and were met with a wall of enthusiasm. Greeted with cheers from their future RAs and orientation leaders, the students began to move in at 8:30 a.m. But with all of this excitement comes nervousness for many students, as they prepare to meet a host of new people for the first time. Recently in this position herself, Elon orientation leader and sophomore Erin Eady remembers what it was like.

As students, along with their parents and siblings, moved into the Global Neighborhood, President Leo Lambert walked around the neighborhood greeting parents and students on his last move-in day as president. Students expressed excitement and nervousness to start their first year at Elon, while some of their parents held back the strong emotions that the day brought.

It might not be as new as some other dorms on campus, but the
Historic Neighborhood has charm and a rich history. Historic consists
of approximately 700 residents in ten buildings. Students moving in to West Hall will be the first to stay in the newly renovated dorms. Old or new, students said they are very excited to start their time at Elon.

Elon University’s Class of 2021’s statistics resemble the Class of 2020’s in almost every category except one — the number of applicants. Admissions received 10,098 last year compared to 9,622 this year. But Elon still managed to enroll more students. Fifteen more students enrolled this year instead of last year. Every other statistic —including test scores, states of origin and gender ratio — are virtually identical.
