Elon University will transition from Moodle to Canvas as its learning management system starting in the fall of 2026, according to an email Vice President of Student Life Jon Dooley sent to Elon students.

A press release posted about the change said that Elon received feedback from more than 125 faculty and staff members and more than 400 students in the fall via surveys about Moodle.

Dooley said that Moodle will remain fully supported through the transition and that no changes will be made to how courses are taught this semester.

In the university’s press release, Eric Bauer, a faculty fellow for technology, expressed his excitement for Canvas, which is used by more than 4,000 universities.

“As a member of the LMS evaluation project team, I was grateful for the quantity and depth of feedback we received from colleagues and students,” Bauer wrote. “I’m excited to see how my colleagues creatively use the many new tools within Canvas to make their classes even more engaging and easy for students to navigate and look forward to exploring with them the possibilities of the new LMS.”

Senior Director of Teaching and Learning Technologies Kelly Reimer forwarded ENN to Faith Thomas, a senior administrative assistant. Thomas did not respond to ENN’s request for comment.

Dhvani Toprani, an assistant director of learning design and support, also did not respond to ENN’s request for comment.
