Eddie Talley said he has been an activist since he came out in 2004. Now, Talley is the organizer for Burlington’s pride parade and led over 40 participants June 24 through downtown Burlington. Talley said this is the third annual pride parade for Burlington, and the first year there were any protestors.
"This is the first time we've had fans and this is my third year doing it,” Talley told Elon News Network. “It's kind of an honor for them to come."
Participant Carrie Varnedore came with her friend she met at the same parade last year. Varnedore told Elon News Network she is a part of the LGBTQ Democratic caucus in Alamance County and came to represent the organization. She also said she came to support her community.
"I just want to be here as a protector, just to make sure everyone is doing what they are supposed to be doing," Varnedore said.
