The Town of Elon planned to celebrate its 125th anniversary today in Downtown Elon, but due to weather conditions, the event was called off.

Emily Sharpe, Town of Elon Alderwoman and co-chair of the 125th Anniversary Celebration, said the event was cancelled because the roads were too wet.

The event was cancelled around today 10:30 a.m. A post on the Town of Elon's Facebook page said they will celebrate their 125th anniversary on Tuesday, April 10 at 6 p.m. in the Town of Elon Municipal Building with cupcakes.

Forty vendors were expected to come and support the town, along with four bands and five sponsors.

"Thank you to all of the vendors that came out, our fabulous volunteers and our sponsors," read a statement on the Town of Elon's Facebook page.
