Though classes were cancelled due to dangerous weather, Elon Local News has been covering the weather all morning. Here is what we know so far:

Power Outages and Damages

According to Duke Energy, 61,044 people are without power in Alamance County, including houses on Westview, Summerbell and Woodale Avenues, among others. On campus, there is no power in Danieley, Colonnades, Mill Point and the Global Neighborhood. Currently, Duke Energy said that there is no timetable for restoration, but crews have been moved to effected counties to speed up the process.

A tree fell onto Belk Pavilion earlier this afternoon, crushing part of the roof. The oak tree is more than 100 years old and fell due to a combination of ice and age. A crew arrived from Asplundh to ensure that trees will not fall on any more power lines.

There are downed trees and branches all around campus, as well as some downed power lines. Anyone without power can go to Moseley Center or Alumni Gym, and there are open showers in Alumni Gym. There has not been a decision about evacuating students without power in their dorms, but a decision will be made later tonight.

Dining

Acorn Coffee Shop, West End Terrace and Colonnades Dining Hall are closed. Lakeside and McEwen Dining Halls will be open from 5-9 p.m. for dinner. Zeta Beta Tau's Bojangles Shabbat dinner has also been cancelled.

Events

All activities and events, including Fellows events for today, have been cancelled.
