More than a thousand people lined the streets Monday in Greensboro to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Greensboro Branch of the NAACP sponsored the 25th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Parade. The parade took place, fittingly, on Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive. The parade featured several grand marshals, local marching bands, churches, vintage cars and activist groups.

The young and old gathered to commemorate and promote the ongoing work for equality and opportunity that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., started more than 50 years ago.

Monique Douglas, of Greensboro, has been a part of the parade since she was in high school. Now a mom, Douglas explained why she keeps coming back to the parade year after year.

"I just want to make sure that my children are aware of his struggle and the struggle that we are still going through" Douglas said. "And I just want to make sure that we are out here to celebrate and make sure that everyone is aware of his message and what we can do to keep his dream alive."
