The Elon University women’s tennis team won its fifth straight match with a 5-2 victory at the Reeves Tennis Center in Spartanburg, S.C. against Wofford College .

As they’ve done so often this season, the Phoenix got off to a hot start, sweeping all three doubles matches to take the lone doubles point.

Juniors Jordan Johnston and Frida Jansaker led off the match with an 8-4 victory over the Terriors duo of Sarah Evens and Othilia Lindqvist.

Senior Briana Berne and freshman Taylor Casey followed with an 8-5 decision in the No. 3 doubles positition. Soon after, sophomore Maria Camara Ruiz and junior Viviana Stavreva won the third doubles match with an 8-5 victory.

Sophomore Barbora Lazarova won her match in the No. 5 singles position, giving the Phoenix a 2-0 lead. Bryn Khoury followed with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles to increase Elon’s lead to three.

Jansaker and Johnston provided the Phoenix’s remaining two points to salt away the victory, the 16th of the year for the Phoenix.

The sixteen wins matches the 2010 squad for the most wins in a single season since becoming a Division I program.

The Phoenix will return to the court April 7 with a road match at Furman University.
