?The Elon University men’s tennis team won a nail biter over the College of Charleston 4-3 on Saturday afternoon.  The Phoenix got off to a hot start winning all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead.

Junior Cameron Silverman and sophomore Stefan Fortmann defeated junior Brice Allanic and sophomore Charlie Ghriskey 8-3 at No. 1 doubles to clinch the doubles point.

Freshman Robert Lindgren and sophomore Brian Kowalski defeated sophomore Sebastian Lopez and junior Crescente Lesser 8-6 at No. 2 doubles.

Sophomores Jordan Kaufman and Juan Madrid won at No. 3 singles by defeating freshman Zack Lewis and sophomore Alon Faiman. ?Kowalski extended the lead to 2-0 in favor of the Phoenix after a 6-1, 6-1 win over Faiman at No. 5 singles. Fortmann then won at No. 2 singles defeating Lopez in straight sets 6-4, 6-1 to give Elon a 3-0 lead.

?The College of Charleston then stormed back to get the match tied at 3. Charlie Griskey started it off with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Kaufman at No. 4 singles.

?Lewis then defeated Madrid at No. 6 singles in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. Lesser tied the match at 3 with his 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 win over Lindgren at No. 3 singles.

?Silverman, who entered the match ranked No. 45 in the nation in singles, defeated Allanic to clinch the match for the Phoenix. After losing the first set 6-2, Silverman responded by winning the next two sets 6-2, and 1-0.

The win brings Elon to 14-5 on the season and a perfect 7-0 in the Southern Conference. The Phoenix have a quick turnaround as they host Georgia Southern University on Sunday, April 7 at 1 p.m.
