The Elon University men’s tennis team wrapped up the regular season with a convincing 6-1 win over Appalachian State University April 10 in Boone, N.C. The win ended a brief two game losing streak for the Phoenix and clinched at least a share of the Southern Conference regular season championship.

Elon won all three doubles matches to take the early 1-0 lead. Junior Cameron Silverman and sophomore Stefan Fortmann defeated junior Sebastien King and freshman Zach Bost 8-3 at No. 1 doubles.

Freshman Robert Lindgren and sophomore Brian Kowalski defeated freshman Jan-Willem Kleynhans and senior Andrew McKinnon at No. 2 doubles,8-2.

Sophomores Juan Madrid and Jordan Kaufman defeated sophomore Steve Lake and senior Steve Karendal 8-3 at No. 3 doubles to complete the sweep.

Fortmann, filling in for Silverman at No. 1 singles who is still feeling the effects of an illness, defeated King in straight sets 6-3, 6-1.

Kaufman defeated Bost in straight sets 6-1, 7-5 at No. 3 singles to extend the lead to 3-0.

Sophomore Carlos Arboleda clinched the win for the Phoenix with his 6-3, 6-3 win over Lake at No. 6 singles.

Madrid continued his winning form defeating junior Matt Saltsgaver 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (10-3) at No. 5 singles for his third straight win in singles.

Kowalski defeated McKinnon at No. 4 singles 6-4, 2-6, 7-1.

Lindgren was the only Phoenix player to lose his match falling to Karendal at No. 2 singles 7-5 6-4.

The Phoenix wraps up the regular season with a record of 15-7 and 8-2 in the Southern Conference. The Phoenix is set to host the Southern Conference tournament from April 18-21 at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
