It is undeniable that springtime is an amazing time of year. The trees are full, the flowers blossom and the weather is perfect for a stroll around the park. Students and faculty members have spoken, and here are the top five aspects of spring:
5. Sports- Baseball, golf, lacrosse, soccer and many other sports hit their peak in excitement in the springtime. With the fantastic weather, a lot of people want to get out and get active.
“I just love being able to have the ability to go outdoors with my kids,” said Max Negin, assistant professor of communications.
Spring is definitely a great time to get outdoors and get active.
“All of the seasons are in full swing,” said senior Melissa Mullery. “It’s nice to sit and watch exciting lacrosse games.”
Students can enjoy going to the driving range for a nice, relaxing game of golf. Make sure to take advantage of the many opportunities Elon offers for sports in the springtime.
Additionally, Elon Outdoors takes many trips during the spring to go rock climbing, hiking and white water rafting. They even have a beach trip coming up in April.
4. Leisure activities- Relaxation is at an all-time high during the spring months. Some classes move outside and people play Frisbee on the lawns and eat lunch on the patios. Pull out the hammock and enjoy a book under the warm sky. You can even just take a walk throughout campus, have a picnic on the grass in front of Moseley and much more.
Holi, a Hindu festival of colors, is making another appearance on campus: April 11 at 4 p.m. on speaker’s corner is where all the color action will take place. It is the perfect way to celebrate the end of winter and the beginning of spring. There will be music, food and of course the Holi colors. Be prepared to have a blast and get a little color on you.
The Bog Garden in Greensboro is a great spot for a leisurely walk. The garden features a boardwalk and stone pathways that travel through natural wetlands and it has free admission.
3. The environment- “Everything is just so happy,” said freshman Toya Jenkins. Spring is full of excitement. The flowers are back and the grass is even greener, especially here at Elon. The bright Carolina blue sky can be seen out every window.
“I just like to let the sun beam across my face,” said senior Brittney Williams.
“It’s not too cold and it’s not too hot,” said Marilyn Slade, program assistant of the Multicultural Center.
The bright sun and cool breeze add a nice feeling when walking through campus. Take time to enjoy the environment by admiring the landscape and the earth’s natural beauty. Elon is a botanical garden, so this is the perfect place for students and faculty members to enjoy spring, especially during College Coffee.
Spring also creates feelings of reflection and a new beginning. The flowers bloom and your talents and personality can bloom as well.
2. Food- Springtime is perfect for cookouts and all-around great food. Springtime is a great time to get your fresh fruit and vegetables.
Burlington Downtown Farmers Market will reopen for its spring season April 6 from 8 a.m. to noon. If you are looking to get fresh strawberries, lemons, kiwis, grapefruit and cherries, make sure you visit the Farmer’s Market.
Cookouts are also popular during spring. Gather with some friends and family and enjoy a cookout with traditional burgers and hotdogs.
“I love being with my family and eating seafood,” Williams said. Seafood is a great treat during the warm months of April and May.
You can visit the Harbor Inn for some fresh seafood right here in Burlington.
Lastly, take advantage of the cooler spring nights and make s’mores. S’mores Outdoors happens every Wednesday night right outside of Elon’s Fitness Center. It’s a great time for a free late night snack and to hang with some friends.
1. Spring Break- What is spring without spring break? That week of not worrying about waking up early for class and not dealing with the stress of an assignment you just remembered was due in a few hours. Spring break is something that everyone enjoys.
There are many options to have fun and relax over spring break. Many students are taking beach trips with friends.
Some are going on alternative spring break trips to volunteer in various towns and countries. Elon Outdoors is taking a trip to Orlando, and many other organizations are taking trips to do service, relax and have fun. Students even go home and relax for spring break.
Whatever you do, make the best of it. Enjoy a swim in the pool, laugh with friends, catch up on your favorite show, shop and get as much sleep as possible because once the semester starts back up, sleep will be hard to come by.
