The Elon University men’s tennis team won its second straight conference match on Wednesday, March 13, by taking down the Davidson College Wildcats, 6-1.

The Phoenix won the first point of the afternoon by taking all three doubles matches. Junior Cameron Silverman and sophomore Stefan Fortmann won their No. 1 doubles match defeating junior Ethan Kallick and senior Joe Schafer, 8-6.

Sophomore Brian Kowalski and freshman Robert Lindgren slipped by seniors Chris Mark and Kevin Moore, 8-7, in No. 2 doubles.

Finally, sophomores Juan Madrid and Jordan Kaufman beat junior Robert Lightbourn and sophomore Nicky Kunz 8-2 in No. 3 doubles.

The Phoenix then won five out of the six singles matches. Kaufman was the only Phoenix to lose his match, as Lightbourn won in three sets, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 4 singles.

Silverman made quick work of Kunz, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 1 singles while Fortmann outlasted Schafer in a three-set battle 7-6, 6-2, 10-7 at No. 2 singles.

Lindgren defeated senior Chris Mack at No. 3 singles in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, and senior Carlos Arboleda was victorious over freshman Alex Howard at No. 6 singles. Arboleda defeated the freshman in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.

The win brings Elon to 6-4 on the season and a perfect 2-0 in the Southern Conference. The loss drops Davidson to 8-5 on the season and an even 2-2 mark in conference.

The Phoenix has two more Southern Conference matches this weekend When they host Wofford College on Saturday, March 16 and Furman University on Sunday, March 17 at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center. Both matches will start a 1 p.m.
