Following a national search to fill the position, Patrick Noltemeyer will begin his tenure as the chief of staff and secretary to the Elon University Board of Trustees on March 1, 2019. This role will include Noltemeyer acting as the principal professional aide for President Connie Book.

The position was left vacant by Jeff Stein, who will assume the full-time position of vice president for strategic initiatives for the university while he continues to serve as co-chair of the Elon 2030 Strategic Planning Committee. Stein will aid in transitioning Noltemeyer into the role before beginning his time as vice president on June 1, 2019.

Noltemeyer is leaving Centre College in Danville, Kentucky, where he has worked as the chief planning officer since 2015. Some of his biggest roles at Centre College include having developed a 20-year strategic plan for the school's physical campus and having been a guiding hand in the college’s reaffirmation of its accreditation.
