The Elon University women’s tennis squad made its first appearance in the NCAA tournament last year. Today, coach Elizabeth Anderson released the team’s 2015 schedule as she and her players look to make a second consecutive trip to the tourney.

The season will begin Friday, Jan. 9 at 2 p.m. in Chapel Hill as the Phoenix squares off against the North Carolina Tar Heels.

Following its contest against the Tar Heels, Elon will host South Carolina State Tuesday, Jan. 20 at 1 p.m. After that, the squad will go on a four-game road trip.

For the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Kick-Off Weekend tournament in Gainesville, Florida, the Phoenix will take on the Florida Gators Saturday, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m. According to the ITA’s 2014 season rankings, the Gators were the fifth best NCAA Division I team in the country by the end of the season.

After Elon plays Florida, they will compete against either Maryland or Georgia State Sunday, Jan. 25 at noon or 2 p.m.

To close out the four-game road trip, the Phoenix will travel to Wake Forest and Gardner-Webb Feb. 7 and Feb. 12 respectively.

Next, Elon will return home for three consecutive games against North Carolina A&T (Feb. 14), Washington & Lee (Feb. 14), and South Carolina-Upstate (Feb. 20). The Phoenix will then close out February on the road at William & Mary (Feb. 27) and Towson (Feb. 28) to begin play in the Colonial Athletic Association.

In March, Elon will play five of its first six matches at home. For these five matches, they are slated to host UNCG (Mar. 4), Liberty (Mar. 6), George Washington (Mar. 15), East Carolina (Mar. 18), and James Madison (Mar. 21). On Friday, Mar. 13, the Phoenix will travel to UNC Wilmington.

The month will conclude in Hilton Head, South Carolina form March 24-25 as the Phoenix compete against Savannah State and a team yet to be announced.

After traveling to Charlotte Friday, Apr. 3, Elon will close out its regular season with three home matches at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center against Davidson (Apr. 7), College of Charleston (Apr. 10), and North Carolina Central (Apr. 11).

The CAA Women’s Tennis Championship will be played from April 16-19 in Williamsburg, Virginia.
