Eddie Talley said he has been an activist since he came out in 2004. Now, Talley is the organizer for Burlington’s pride parade and led over 40 participants June 24 through downtown Burlington. Talley said this is the third annual pride parade for Burlington, and the first year there were any protestors.

The Burlington Police Department announced Assistant Police Chief Alan Balog will be the department’s next police chief. Balog has been with the department for 11 years and works closely with current Police Chief Brian Long, who is retiring in June.

Segovia said despite the Hispanic community at Elon being a small group, it is a mighty community.

North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper vetoed Senate Bill 20 on May 13 during a rally in Bicentennial Plaza in Raleigh, located mere footsteps from North Carolina’s Legislative Complex and State Capitol. During the rally, Cooper said he is opposed to SB20, and highlighted that both Republican-dominated houses of the General Assembly passed the bill within 48 hours — which some have criticized as reckless.

George Moorhead was commissioned as a lieutenant in the army in the late 1950s and 60s. When he came back from his military service, he started his own sales company and gave those he employed the opportunity for growth and development for 30 years. He was married to his late wife, Marianne, for almost 60 years and was a giving father to his two children: Jack and Leslie. Moorhead also helps students learn about the human body in extensive detail and prepares them for a variety of careers in the medical field.

The Alamance Burlington Board of Education voted to terminate the employment of Ivan Danilo Ardila-Perez, a Southern Middle School teacher, during its work session Tuesday. Perez, 37, had been a Spanish teacher and soccer coach.
