Republican Michael Stading won the North Carolina Court of Appeals Judge Seat 11 against his opponent, Democrat Darren Jackson, winning 53.06% of the vote.
Stading currently serves in the U.S. Air Force as the System Staff Judge Advocate of the Judge Advocate General’s Corps and has been a part of the corp since 2016. In addition, he serves as a judge on the North Carolina 26th District.
Stading said he interprets case law, statutes, the Constitution and other legislation by analyzing what it meant at the time it was written.
“Those words matter and so I make sure to give deference to those words and I don’t impute my own personal preference, my own personal beliefs,” Stading said. “I feel like that keeps me grounded and it gives some predictability.”
