Updated June 9, 2020, at 11:02 a.m. to include map of fall semester plans.

Elon University will begin in-person classes for fall 2020 on Aug. 19.  This is six days before the original start date on Aug. 25.

The plan for fall semester titled “Ready & Resilient,” is based on the recommendation of the Task Force on Fall Semester 2020 chaired by President Emeritus Leo Lambert.

Move in for freshmen will take place over multiple days, Aug. 14- 17, with each student being assigned a time. These dates are tentative. Freshmen and returning students will receive a cloth face mask when they arrive to campus.

Face masks will be required in classrooms.

Fall break will be two days Oct. 7 and Nov. 3. Fall break was originally scheduled Oct. 9 - Oct. 12.

Family weekend, originally scheduled for Oct. 23 - 25 will not be in-person. Homecoming, which was scheduled for Oct. 12-18, will also not be held in-person. Both events will be virtual.

In-person classes will end before Thanksgiving and finals will be held remotely between Nov. 30- Dec. 4.

The schedule for Winter Term and spring 2021 will be announced in the fall.

Other North Carolina universities like, University of North Carolina Greensboro, Appalachian State University and  North Carolina State University have announced similar plans.

This announcement comes after Elon had its first confirmed case of coronavirus also known as COVID-19 on May 29. As of June 8, there are over 500 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Alamance County.

The university suspended in-person classes for the remainder of spring semester 2020 due to concerns surrounding the coronavirus pandemic.
