With 99.59% of precincts reporting, Elon News Network projects Thom Tillis as the Republican nominee and Cal Cunningham as the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate.

Tonight North Carolina will narrow down the race for U.S. Senate. In the March 3 primary election, nine names are on the ballot. The five Democrats include state senator Erica D. Smith, Steve Swenson, former state senator Cal Cunningham, Mecklenburg county commissioner Trevor Fuller, and Atul Goel. On the Republican side are incumbent Thom Tillis, Paul Wright, Larry Holmquist and Sharon Hudson.

Democrats Smith, Cunningham, and Fuller are in favor of addressing climate change, improving education, and limiting access to guns. Swenson is in favor of repealing Authorization for Use of Military Force following the September 11 attacks, and Goel is in favor of party unity.

Republicans Tillis, Holmquist, and Hudson are supportive of Donald Trump and are in favor of his economic policy, which includes tax cuts. Wright is in favor of bolstering Christianity in the U.S. and is against same-sex marriage. Each Republican candidate is against gun control and abortion.

Results in North Carolina were held until 8:10 p.m.
