The Student Government Association passed a bill Thursday night allocating funds to enhance National Pan-Hellenic Incorporated monuments on campus.

The bill — S.B. 20-2.2 — will put $20,000 towards enhancing the National Pan-Hellenic Council monuments. SGA said that these monuments will serve as a gathering space, a place to go during homecoming and a physical representation of inclusion.

Authored by Deena Elrefai and sponsored by Austin Moore, Malia Takei and Trevor Molin, the funds would be up to the discretion of the NPHC Council of Presidents. A simple majority vote between the presidents will determine how the funds will be used.

The monuments — which are located between the Center for Leadership and Loy Center — are to be enhanced "in accordance with university landscaping and physical plant parameters."

Bill sponsor and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Vice President Austin Moore said that these monuments are important to the NPHC members at Elon University.

"(NPHC's) are a really valuable community that is often overlooked on campus," she said.

The NPHC Council of Presidents is responsible for planning, purchasing and executing the monument enhancing which is expected to be completed by May 31, 2022.
