Members of the Elon University community congregated near Speakers' Corner Feb. 6 for the Global Solidarity March in response to President Donald Trump's recent immigration ban on seven majority-Muslim countries.

The event, planned by seniors Suad Ibrahim and Surya Shahi, was co-sponsored by the Elon International Society, the Truitt Center for Religious and Spiritual Life and many other identify organizations on Elon's campus. More than 100 people, including senior staff administration, attended the event.

The event began with select speakers — such as Brooke Barnett, associate provost for inclusive community, and Joel Harter, associate chaplain, and Shane Atkinson, Muslim Life coordinator — and ended with a short march around Global Neighborhood.

Hijab Day, to take place next Thursday, is another event planned by the Truitt Center that will focus on camaraderie alongside the Muslim community.
