Fifty-two-year old Thadeous Carr is the floor tech and custodian for the Global Neighborhood Commons and though he says his life is squeaky clean now, it hasn't always been that way.

"I went from being unemployed for about a year and a half, to Elon rescuing me from the pits of despair," said Carr.

When Carr lost his job as a mental health therapist in 2012, he says four letters saved him.

"My world was rescued by E-L-O-N," said Carr.

While his job is cleaning the floors, his hobby is talking.

"I've got a couple of set mantras that I ask them," said Carr. "Like what color is respect? What color is love? What color is anger?"

Carr has been speaking to students every night since he began working at Elon in 2014.

"I try to make sure that I say things that are positive and motivating and comforting," said Carr. "Just trying to unlock some keys, cause I've met a lot of great kids here man."

The advice Carr gives is enlightening to all students.

"We have to take life as life comes," said Carr. "There are a lot of things that we would like to do that we can't do, unit those doors open and those opportunities present themselves."

What Carr gains from the conversations, makes his day.

"It makes me feel good at the end of the day that I may be able to say something in a positive light, or a positive spin on something that a kid may not have had the access to," said Carr.

A man with a wealth of knowledge, sharing it one conversation at a time.
