Each Spring, the Office of Admissions hires new university guides and admissions staff. Working for admissions is not only one of the top choices for student employment on campus, but it is also one of the most competitive. Last year there were roughly 500 applicants for only 40 tour guide positions.

Dean of Undergraduate Admission Lisa Keegan says a key trait applicants should have is to be relatable.

"We want students that are able to find a connection with families and authentically convey the Elon story," Keegan said.

Admissions has received several hundred applications already and says the office looks to hire 50 to 80 students for the upcoming school year.

Sophomore university guide Tyson Glover's main advice for students is to be yourself.

"Be your genuine self because people want to know about your experiences. They don't want to hear a cookie cutter answer," he said.

In the coming weeks the Office of Admissions will be conducting interviews with applicants.

Below are a few resume writing tips from On-Campus Student Employment Coordinator, Nancy Carpenter.

Read the job description and research the company first. Read the description in order to understand the qualifications and schedule required for the position. Understand the mission of the department or company so that you can convey that you are interested in not only the job but also the department/organization.

Be organized. Start by making a list of all your work experiences, internships, volunteer work, student organization membership, education/certifications, and skills that relate to the job description.

Don't use a template. Create your resume as a Word document and use bullets, section titles, and other formatting tools to make your resume organized and easy-to-read.

Get to the point. Your resume must list important position relevant facts first. Use key words from the job description that will convey that your experience and skills are transferable to the job.

Ask for help. Utilize the team of Student Professional Development Center to assist you in creating and reviewing your resume.
