The funeral for Trent Stetler, an Elon junior who died earlier this week, will be held Saturday, Jan. 17, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at 415 East Athens Avenue, Ardmore, PA 19003 (610-642-3211).

According to the email sent out Tuesday evening from Dean of Students Smith Jackson, the Stetler family will receive friends for visitation on Friday Jan. 16 from 5 - 7 p.m. at the Chadwick McKinney Funeral Home at 30 East Athens Avenue, Ardmore, PA 19003 (610-642-6303).

The email also says Elon has arranged transportation for those wishing to attend Stetler's funeral. Vans will leave at 8:30 a.m. Friday from the Oaks Apartments' parking lot and are expected to return by 11 p.m. Saturday.

Dean Jackson says students who want to travel with the Elon vans should contact Jan Register, the program assistant for the Truitt Center of Religious and Spiritual Life, by 12 p.m. Thursday Jan. 15. The university will also help arrange housing for students who wish to attend Saturday's funeral.

In his email, Dean Jackson says Trent's parents, James and Denette Stetler, would appreciate any cards, letters or pictures of their son, which can be sent to their home address: 534 Kenmore Road, Havertown, PA 19083. Dean Jackson also says the Stetlers welcome any emails (djstetler@verizon.net) and posts on Trent's Facebook wall.

From Dean Jackson's email Tuesday night, the Stetlers say that instead of flowers, they would appreciate contributions be made in their son's memory to the non profit, Manna, at 2323 Ranstead Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103. They can also be made to the Yellow Ribbon Program to Support Youth at P.O. Box 644, Westminster, CO 80036.

Yesterday (Monday, Jan. 12) a "Gathering of Friends" was held for Stetler in the Lakeside Meeting Room at Elon University. Those who knew Stetler came to share their memories and to offer support and comfort to others.

University Chaplain Jan Fuller says students getting together to talk about Stetler could go a long way.

"A little bit of alone time is not a bad thing but I think at this point it's a really good thing to come together, really good to be in groups, really good to kind of, keep talking to each other," Chaplain Fuller said. "'How did you feel when you heard this, who do you know? How do you remember Trent? What's your funnest memory of him?' So alone and together are kind of normal pieces."

Stetler was an active member on campus. Besides majoring in economics and minoring in communications, he was a part of Elon's chapter of the business fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi, played on the men's rugby team and interned for the Phoenix Club with Elon Athletics.

"Trent was one of those guys who was always going to make you smile, no matter where you are," close friend Nick Cianciara said. "If you're having a bad day, he'll find you and he'll let you know that he's there. He also had this big, goofy grin on his face, and if he knew how sad people were feeling right now, about all of what's happened, I think that he'd be trying to make everyone feel very positive."

Dean Jackson encourages any grieving students to reach out to Elon Counseling Services, which is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or at (336) 278-7280. After hours, counselors are available through Campus Safety and Police (336) 278-5555.

As of Sunday, Dean Jackson said the Burlington police are still investigating Stetler's death, but say it appears Stetler took his own life. Dean Jackson told ELN the Burlington Police said they were called around 9:15 a.m. Sunday and the incident did not occur on Elon property.

ELN's Ryan Greene and Lauren Cook contributed to this report.
