Members of the Elon University women’s track and field team competed in a pair of meets during the weekend of April 4-5. A majority of the team competed at the Liberty Collegiate Invitational in Lynchburg, Va., and two distance runners went to the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Ca.
Sophomore Tereza Novotna and senior Allyson Oram both set school records at the Stanford meet. Novotna finished the 3,000-meter steeplechase event in 10:33.40, finishing eighth overall. Oram finished the 10,000-meter event with a time of 34:49.59. Both times were the fastest recorded in the Southern Conference this season.
Back in the Eastern Time Zone, Elon won four events at the Liberty Collegiate Invitational. Sophomore Simone Jackson finished third in the 100-meter dash, but set a new school record at 12.18 seconds. Elon’s team of Jackson, sophomore Jennifer Pash, senior Bria Bell and sophomore Sydney Griffin won the 4x100-meter race, clocking in at 46.99.
Griffin also claimed first in the 100-meter hurdles event with a time of 14.15. Bell won the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.09, and Pash finished second at 56.75.
Sophomore Megan Kirschling, who won the Southern Conference Field Athlete of the Week award last week, won the high jump event, clearing the bar at 5’7”.
Next weekend, Elon athletes will compete at the Blue Shoes Invitational in Greenville, S.C. and the Aggie Invitational in Greensboro.
