A tree fell on Belk Pavilion in the Academic Village early in the day March 7. According to University Communications, the tree was more than 100 years old. It split in half after succumbing to a combination of wind and ice.

At this time, Physical Plant is securing the building but has not attempted to remove the tree, according to Dan Anderson, vice president for University Communications. Anderson also said there is significant damage to the building, but Physical Plant workers are doing their best to protect what is inside.

University Communications will alert the student body about relocating classes and faculty offices in Belk Pavilion until repairs can be made.
