The Elon University women’s volleyball team started off strong Tuesday night in their match against High Point University, winning the first set 25-18. Freshman setter Ana Nicksic had two kills of her own as well as 12 assists throughout game one.

Fortunes turned though after the set one. Ten unforced errors in the second set hurt the Phoenix as they fell to the Panthers, 17-25. The pattern would continue for the Phoenix over the next two sets, as the team fell again in the third set, 15-25, giving High Point a 2-1 lead in games heading into set four needing one more game to win the match.

With 12 unforced errors by Elon in the fourth set, the Panthers took a decisive win after a 16-3 run for a final score of 25-12, winning the match three sets to one.

There were 22 attack errors overall from the team and 8 service errors.

Sophomore middle hitter Kris Harris finished with eight kills on 19 attempts while senior Celia Eddy finished with seven kills and five blocks.

The top three High Point hitters had 18, 11 and 10 kills respectively.

The team will finish out their non-conference schedule this weekend in Williamsburg, Va. in the Colonial Challenge tournament. They will face the College of William & Mary on Friday, Sept. 14, then will take on both Hampton University and Howard University on Saturday, Sept 15.
