Wofford fullback holds Elon's focus as No. 5 Terriers visit

There’s no question who the main target of the Elon University football team’s defense this Saturday. He’s the reigning Southern Conference Player of the Year, a first-team All-American by the Associated Press, Sports Network and Phil Steele and is on the 2012 Walter Payton Award Watch List. But the Phoenix is not afraid of the player who fulfills what was written above, Wofford College senior fullback Eric Breitenstein. “We’re not scared of any one player,” said Elon senior defensive lineman Olufemi Lamikanra.

RB Eastman to miss at least 3-4 weeks

Elon University head coach Jason Swepson said today that junior running back Matt Eastman might miss the rest of the season. "He's going to get surgery on his knee in the next day or so," Swepson said after Tuesday's practice.

Not much changes for Phoenix as No. 11 Georgia Southern looms

The Georgia Southern University Eagles will host the Elon University Phoenix in a football game on Saturday afternoon, both teams coming under a difference of circumstances. Elon is on a two-game winning streak after the embarrassing 62-0 loss to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to open the season, and has a bunch of confidence. After a bye week, the Eagles hope to rebound from a 23-21 loss to The Citadel Sept.

Analysis: Recapping West Virginia State-Elon

It’s been three different kinds of opponents in three games this season for the Phoenix. A clearly superior opponent in North Carolina, a clearly inferior opponent in West Virginia State, and an opponent hovering somewhere around Elon’s level in North Carolina Central. Elon did what they had to do this weekend, easily dispatching West Virginia State University in the team’s final non-conference game of the season before embarking on what could be called murderers row of the Southern Conference over the next three weeks. Efficient offense, stiff defense help Phoenix slash Eagles

To Elon Phoenix head football coach Jason Swepson, the scoreboard looked a lot better at Rhodes Stadium this week than at Kenan Memorial Stadium last week. The Phoenix defeated the visiting North Carolina Central Eagles 34-14 Saturday night, using an efficient offense and a stiff defense to improve to 1-1 this season. “I’m very pleased, obviously with the victory,” Swepson said.

Overmatched Phoenix football stomped by North Carolina

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill sophomore running back Giovani Bernard showed why he was the Atlantic Coast Conference rookie of the year last season. On the first play of his team’s second drive, he took the hand-off 59 yards for a touchdown. It was the first of eight touchdowns the Tar Heels would score on the day on the way to whooping Elon University 62-0 Saturday afternoon in Chapel Hill in North Carolina head coach Larry Fedora’s debut. “Good first game and great to get it under our belt,” Fedora said.
