Men's soccer loses 3rd straight match in 3-1 defeat to Hofstra

The Elon University men’s soccer team lost its third straight match at Rudd Field Saturday evening to Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) regular season champion Hofstra University 3-1. The match was level at 1-1 heading into the final twenty minutes of play, but the deadlock was broken when Hofstra freshman forward Luke Brown was able to collect a save from Elon redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Matthew Jegier and kick the ball into the goal, giving the Pride the lead.

Women's basketball cruises to exhibition win

The Elon University women’s basketball team started its season off on the right foot, winning its lone exhibition game 74-72 over Division II Wingate University Saturday afternoon. Elon was able to storm out of the gates at the beginning of each half, holding a 23-7 advantage in both the first and third quarters.

Football loses 4th straight at UAlbany

The losing skid continued for the Elon University football team Saturday afternoon as the Phoenix lost its fourth straight game, this one a 27-3 defeat at the State University of New York at Albany in a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) game. The Phoenix offense continued its weeklong sputter as the Phoenix only scored three points against the Great Danes.

Volleyball falls at home to Towson

Elon University’s volleyball team hosted the Towson University Tigers in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) action on Friday night at Alumni Gym, but was unable to defend home court after falling behind by two sets to none, and eventually losing by three sets to one.

5 student-athletes reprimanded after shooting paintballs at President Lambert's house

Five Elon University freshmen student-athletes were reprimanded by their respective athletic teams for shooting paintballs at the house of President Leo Lambert late last week, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the situation. Three of the athletes were football players — wide receiver Jeremiah Bridges, defensive back Khalil Moore and defensive lineman Marcus Willoughby — and two were women’s basketball players — guards Jada Graves and Madison Wilder.

Football finding footing in run game

Even though the Elon University football team has struggled to score points offensively, the Phoenix has been able to move the ball well on the ground. Things were no different on Saturday, as Elon ran for 156 yards on 39 carries, averaging exactly four yards per rushing play in its 35-7 loss to the sixth-ranked University of Richmond.

Agu’s brace not enough for men's soccer vs. Delaware

The difficult Homecoming Saturday continued late into the evening for the Elon University athletics teams as the men's soccer team lost to Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) rival University of Delaware 3-2 at Rudd Field. The Phoenix’s two first-half goals from junior striker Elijah Agu proved to be in vain, as the Blue Hens were able to recover from a 2-1 deficit to get the win at Rudd Field by a score of 3-2 on Saturday night.

Football drops Homecoming game to Richmond

The Elon University football team kept it close against the sixth-ranked University of Richmond in the first half, but the Spiders turned on the jets after halftime en route to a 35-7 win Saturday afternoon at Rhodes Stadium. The Phoenix only trailed 6-0 after two quarters during the Homecoming game, but the Spiders scored touchdowns on their first four possession after the break. “Early on, we came out pretty competitive in the first half and made some big stops,” said Elon head coach Rich Skrosky.

Last-gasp pass broken up as football loses to New Hampshire

On its final play of the night, the Elon University football team went for the win. But sophomore quarterback Daniel Thompson’s pass intended for freshman wide receiver Cole Taylor was broken up and the Phoenix lost to the University of New Hampshire 13-10 Friday night at Rhodes Stadium. “It was a good college football game — it was two good teams that put it all on the line,” said head coach Rich Skrosky.

Sophomore quarterback Daniel Thompson didn’t want to look at the stats after the Elon University football team’s game Saturday afternoon against Villanova University. And frankly, I can’t blame him. Not after the Phoenix was blown out by the Wildcats 42-7, a 35-point loss that felt like much more.

Football puts out suicide prevention video

While the Family Weekend game did not go well for the Elon University football team Saturday afternoon, the Phoenix received attention around campus for something positive. The football team partnered with Active Minds — the student advocacy club that “strives to break the stigma surrounding mental illness” — to create a 40-second video that was shown on the videoboard during the first half of Saturday’s game.

Football dominated by #14 Villanova 42-7

In a complete reversal from the previous week’s upset, the Elon University football team got shellacked by Villanova University Saturday afternoon, falling behind by 35 at half and losing the game 42-7 at Rhodes Stadium. In front of 10,424 fans — Elon’s seventh-largest crowd for Family Weekend — the Wildcats scored on all five of its first half drives, thoroughly silencing a relatively raucous Elon fanbase. “Well obviously, it was a disappointing effort in every phase of the game,” said head coach Rich Skrosky.

​Women’s soccer wraps up nonconference play with a win

First half goals from junior defender Kendall Ballotti and freshman striker Tori Baliatico helped the Elon University women's soccer team wrap up nonconference play and bounce back from Sunday’s loss vs JMU with a 2-0 victory against South Carolina State University Thursday night at Rudd Field. Senior goalkeeper Taylor Mohr was able to record her second shutout of the season, coming up with four big saves to help her team keep the lead in her second consecutive start.

Football pulls off historic upset at #8 William & Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — When freshman defensive back Daniel Reed-Bennett’s interception sealed the win for the Elon University football team at the College of William and Mary Saturday night, junior defensive lineman Dondre Howell couldn’t contain his pride. “On that last play of the game, I threw my hands and I almost cried,” Howell said.

Women's soccer falls to James Madison

The Elon University women's soccer team fell to James Madison University 3-1 Sunday afternoon at Rudd Field in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play, unable to come back after allowing three goals in the first half. The Dukes scored all three of its goals in an 11-minute stretch, leading 3-0 after 25 minutes. Head coach Chris Neal said the team's double-overtime win against Towson University Friday night may have played a factor with the quick turnaround.
