Alpha epsilon pi: another outlet for Jewish students

As of the 2017-2018 school year, Elon University’s student body consisted of 503 self-identifying Jewish students. Like other religions, Judaism can take many forms, but at Elon, there is only one Jewish organization available on campus. According to Phoenix Connect, there are 278 registered members of Hillel, but some Elon Jews have not yet found the community they were hoping for.

Elon Watches: Turner Theatre movie selections hit the heart

Since opening in December 2016, Turner Theatre has provided Elon University with an on-campus movie theater experience available to all students, faculty, staff and families. Films ranging from documentaries to blockbuster features are screened on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and are decided by Turner Theatre management with the help of the Student Union Board Cinema Committee.

Local Native American tribe embraces lineage while looking to the future

The Occaneechi Band of Saponi Nation (OBSN) is a state-recognized Native American tribe in North Carolina. Tammy Hill, an administrative assistant for the department of student health and wellness at Elon University, has been a member for around 25 years.

Community celebrates those who have served

On a rainy morning late last week, community members filed into Elon University’s LaRose Digital Theatre in the Koury Business Center to recognize the sacrifices that United States veterans have made for their country. Though Veterans Day fell on Sunday, Nov. 11, this year, students, faculty, staff, parents and alumni came together on Nov. 9 to recognize those who have served.

Power restored after outage darkens much of campus

Power went out on campus shortly after 11:20 a.m. Monday morning, leaving much of campus in the dark. Backup generators kicked in to keep emergency lights and some Wi-Fi service on. According to a spokesperson for Duke Energy, the source of the power outage is off of Walker Avenue. A fallen tree on a power line is suspected to be the source of the outage.

Elon University football’s hopes of a conference championship came to an end at Rhodes Stadium Saturday when the No. 5 Phoenix (6-3, 4-2) fell to No. 20 Towson University (7-3, 5-2) 41-10. This was Elon’s worst loss of the year and the most points they have given up all year.

Elon University fell to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill 116-67 on Friday, Nov. 9, to a packed house in Schar Center. The big game has come and gone, but the next question is whether or not the fans will stay.
