Elon University announced the purchase of the Synder Campus of Elon Homes and Schools for Children adjacent to the university June 1. The 20-acre property currently houses the Elon School, an independent high school in the Town of Elon, and will change ownership at the end of August.

Despite the passage of the marriage-amendment May 8, those in opposition to Amendment One gathered in community and hope May 9 at Elon University. The university's Student Government Association approved a resolution stating the institution's opposition to the amendment that defines the marriage between one man and one woman as the only domestic legal union recognized in the state less than two weeks earlier.

During a conference call 4 p.m. April 24 Obama, speaking from Air Force One, encouraged students to appeal to Congress to take steps to prevent the interest rates from doubling July 1.

Caution tape surrounded the members of Spectrum, Elon University's queer-straight alliance, as senior Raafe Purnsley, speaking as a carnival ringmaster, called the Elon community to observe them behaving...normal. Melissa Kansky and Grace Elkus talk about Grantoo and Vote Against Project. For those of you that don't know, Grantoo is a website where students can play for scholarship money. Some of that money must be pledged to a charity of the students choosing. But students are free to play these online games in hope of winning some cash for their studies. The Vote Against Project is a political movement hoping to gain awareness with North Carolina voters, against amendment one.

The murder of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin continues to capture the media’s attention and the interest of Elon University’s crime studies club. The club’s co-presidents, sophomores Eden Etzel and Nia Duke, organized the March for Justice to illuminate fallacies they believe to be embedded in the justice system. Although, according to Etzel, those aware of the case typically reduce the injustice to a murder, those who participated in the march believe there are other issues involved in the incident.

The creator of the Vote Against Project visited Elon April 5, the last stop for the Vote Against Project college tour.
