At Thursday night’s SGA Senate meeting, Executive President Darien Flowers encouraged the senators better understand Amendment One, a proposed change to the North Carolina state constitution that would ban legal recognition of all unmarried couples and define marriage as a strictly heterosexual union. Flowers acknowledged the importance of the issue and briefly described a piece of pending legislation outlining the SGA’s stance against the amendment.

The Kangaroo gas station on West Haggard Avenue was found in violation of alcohol sales laws after a countywide alcohol law compliance check. Lieutenant Lyle Anibal of the Town of Elon Police Department charged the store with a misdemeanor Thursday, which is currently pending through the Alcohol Law Enforcement division (ALE).

I would have liked to pursue a story on the Ryan Republican Budget last week, but few knew enough about it to provide good insight into its possible effects and ramifications for college students. I plan to put that on the back burner and keep my ear out for any buzz on the matter.
Exploring the organization and purpose of the "Religion Unwrapped" series, scheduled to take place this month, was interesting in itself, but it also gave way to further questions. I learned that some students have reservations about the opening of the Multi-Faith Center in January, and that this series of seminars was designed, in part, to combat those reservations. I hope to later find the root of these concerns and learn if, in fact, they were dissolved by the this series, as well as other to come.
Did you know it's Public Health Week? If not, hopefully my upcoming article in this week's online-only edition of the Pendulum will better explain the purpose of the week's events and how current issues relate to students. Keep an eye out!
