The Student Government Association created the SGA Scholarship to increase its presence among the student body. Junior Elizabeth Capel and sophomore Kyle Keith are the first two recipients of the scholarship and won $2,000 toward their tuition.

Miller, a 2010 Elon alumna of Elon University's first interactive media graduate class, used her experience abroad to inspire her film “Las Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo and The Search for Identity," which was shown Tuesday. The film received an Indy from the Indy Film Festival for an award of excellence, identifying the film as one of the top 18 films internationally.

The first time I heard about the Dirty War, a time in Argentine’s history where the country was governed by a dictatorship, was fall semester of this year in my Spanish Conversation class. We learned about how more than 10,000 people disappeared during the war, supposedly abducted by the dictator’s regime. Many of them were murdered. As for the children, many of them were adopted by families only to find out later in life that their parents are not their birth parents.

This week, I wrote an article on the little-known American studies minor offered at Elon. Only 24 hours are needed for an American Studies minor, and there is only one class that is mandatory for it: American Concepts, an Introduction to American Studies.

Elon University’s School of Law will hold its fifth annual Diversity Day on Feb. 11. The goal of Diversity Day is to attract and recruit diverse students to the law school, and thereby encourage them to apply to and enroll at Elon Law.

The North Carolina Supreme Court recently ruled in favor of the Campus Police Act, upholding the right of police officers at religious-affiliated universities to enforce state law. Elon University is one of a dozen private colleges and universities with historic religious affiliations that has a campus police force.
