On Friday and Saturday Nov. 8 and 9, the Elon University volleyball team played its final road games of the regular season and fell to Wofford College 3-1 (25-22, 20-25, 25-23, 25-20) and Furman University 3-1 (22-25, 25-16, 25-16, 25-19). The Phoenix are now 7-7 in Southern Conference play, and fifth in the conference standings.

After dominating the first two sets, the Elon University volleyball team found itself with its back against the wall in the fourth set trailing Western Carolina University 21-16. Tying the game up didn’t seem like a pipe dream, as the Phoenix tied the third set at 23-all when they were down 22-19, but the Catamounts came out the victor to extend the match. The real question was if Elon could complete the comeback in the fourth set.

With a .327 hitting percentage, a mere 10 errors and 44 kills, Appalachian State University rolled through Alumni Gym and topped the Elon University volleyball team 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-12) Friday, Nov. 1.

For the second straight night, the Elon University volleyball team had to go to five sets to take down a Southern Conference foe after an extended third set slipped through their fingers. While the match against Furman University the previous night was a back-and-forth thriller, Elon’s game against Wofford College was a blowout, then a Terrier comeback, then a Phoenix victory Saturday, Oct. 26.

The Elon University volleyball team lost at Samford University Friday, Oct. 18, 3-0 (14-25, 21-25, 21-25), and won against the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga the following day, 3-2 (22-25, 22-25, 25-22, 25-17, 15-12). The Phoenix is now 4-4 in Southern Conference play and has a 13-11 record on the season.

Seth played basketball at Duke University for the legendary Mike Krzyzewski. Sonya was a volleyball star at Virginia Tech. This time, it’s Sydel, the freshman setter who has found a new home with the Elon University volleyball team.
