Thomas Frank admits that last semester he was over-involved. A typical day for Frank consisted of working as an RA, taking classes, doing homework, working a second job and working on web design for others’ sites as well as his own. This semester, Frank, a junior Management Information Systems major at Iowa State University, is cutting back on his activities to focus on classes, hang out with friends and, most of all, devote more time to his up-and-coming blog, CollegeInfoGeek.com.

It seems as if every song now has two or three remixes or has been mashed up with a different song with similar harmonies or lyrics to create an original beat and piece. From Girl Talk to DJ Earworm's catchy mashups of the year's pop songs, mashups have been popular in the past decade. Students enrolled in the Winter Term course "Mashups: Hip Hop and Electronic Dance Music" are learning how to create mashups of their own while also studying the process behind this art.

Yasmine Arrington calls herself different and lucky — and she is quite lucky. The freshman strategic communications major from Washington, D.C., is a published poet, recipient of numerous scholarships — including a $25,000 award from the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation and a $30,000 scholarship from The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation — and has traveled abroad to Zambia. Arrington is also the founder of scholarCHIPS (Children with Incarcerated Parents), a nonprofit organization based in the District that offers scholarships to students in Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C., with incarcerated parents.

Peacehaven Farm is located in the agrarian community of Whitsett on 89 acres of sprawling land. The farm is on a quiet street, with the neighboring houses ,mostly farms, few and far between. Afeeling of calmness is in the air, except for gusts of wind and the occasional sound of rooster crows off in the distance. The farm feels so far removed from modern city living, it's surprising that it's only a ten-minute drive from Elon University.
