Panhellenic Primary Recruitment, originally scheduled for Jan. 25 has been postponed due to current weather conditions and the chance of freezing rain, according to Elon Panhellenic Association President Celia Hearn in a written statement to Elon News Network.
Hearn wrote that Panhellenic will monitor the weather daily and make decisions based on prioritizing the safety of chapter members and potential new members. She also wrote that Panhellenic will continue to monitor walkways, roads and the campus power stability to ensure safety.
“Panhellenic Primary Recruitment will not be cancelled, but only postponed until it is safe for recruitment days to begin again,” Hearn wrote.
According to the Elon Spring Recruitment website, recruitment is “a mutual selection process by which sororities recruit new members and introduce them to the responsibilities and opportunities involved with being a sorority woman.”
Round one of recruitment, “belonging,” took place Jan. 24. The next recruitment rounds are “philanthropy,” “sisterhood,” “preference” and “bid day.”
To participate in recruitment, students must be enrolled at Elon University full-time with at least 12 credit hours; have a minimum 2.9 GPA; are not on academic or disciplinary probation; and have completed online registration, in-person orientation and the required hazing-prevention module, according to the website.
