President Connie Book will announce Elon University's plans for the fall semester on June 8, according to Owen Covington, director of Elon University's News Bureau. Book received a report from the Task Force on Fall Semester 2020 with guidelines and recommendations for classes and residence life.

The task force is chaired by President Emeritus Leo Lambert and consists of 23 members from different offices, schools and departments across the university.

According to Covington, Book is discussing the document with members of the board of trustees, academic council, staff council, Student Government Association and "other key stakeholders" before making a decision.

SGA executive president Robbie Miley is on the task force, Jason Kirk associate professor of political science and policy studies is on the task force representing the academic council and database architect Doug Purnell is representing the staff council.

"Based on the Task Force recommendations and input from others, President Book intends to announce outlines of the university’s plan for fall semester on June 8 with an accompanying website that details a variety of guidelines for instruction, residence life, workspaces and interactions throughout campus," Covington wrote.

The plan for the fall semester will be updated as needed, according to Covington.

In early May, Book told Elon News Network she's "confident Elon is going to be open in the fall, and we'll return to our residential model.”
