From a nationwide pool of thousands dreaming of record deals, freshman Lowell Oakley has made the cut to advance to the blind audition portion of the NBC hit singing competition, "The Voice."

According to Facebook and Twitter, Oakley will be competing in front of coaches Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, Pharrell Williams, as well as host Carson Daly.

The Season 8 preview shows Oakley on the main stage, meaning he has made it past the first round of preliminary auditions to get onto the show — those began last June.

He can be found in the official Season 8 preview at the 1:53 mark. The season premieres Monday, Feb. 23

According to Her Campus, Oakley is from Durham, North Carolina, and is a member of Elon’s all-male a cappella group Rip_Chord, club soccer and Young Life. His music and updates on his journey with “The Voice” can be found on his Facebook fan page.

Oakley did not immediately return requests for comment.
