Progress on University High School, the early college partnership between Elon University and Alamance-Burlington School System, is falling behind schedule. The school, which would allow high school students to complete two years of college credit by graduation, is scheduled to open in fall 2012, but ongoing discussions between the two parties are putting it at risk for not being ready on time.

David Hancock spent $700,000 remodeling one of his two apartment complexes in the town of Elon. Hancock, owner of Time Properties in Burlington, added more amenities to try and attract students — a pool, hot tub, volleyball court, weight room and tanning bed. He bought new appliances, updated the bathrooms and painted some of the walls a shade of light blue. He even changed the complex's name to appeal to other people in the community. But Cypress Pointe apartments are still one-third empty, and it isn't the only complex in Elon with vacant units.

The wait is almost over for residents of the town of Elon who want to purchase liquor by the drink without traveling to nearby cities. In a referendum on Tuesday's Nov. 8 ballot, constituents voted to pass a mixed beverage law that will allow for the sale of liquor at bars and restaurants in Elon, a change that will go into effect in January.

Sidewalks on Elon's campus are evolving structures. Throughout the years, some walkways have gained and lost purpose as the university has constructed and torn down buildings. And students have not failed to complain about the nuisance of the meandering paths between buildings.

Every weekday at Elon, Carlton 114 is buzzing with people speaking Spanish. El Centro de Espanol, Elon's only language center, serves as both a home for native Spanish speakers at the university and a place for students of the language to come and practice their conversational skills and learn about Hispanic culture.

During the months before and after graduation, the majority of students prepare to enter the job market, attend graduate school or even complete post-graduate internships. Others decide to postpone entering their career fields by dedicating time to something else: service work.

Among the list of resources and programs that Career Services offers Elon University students and alumni is the Elon Career Network. The database, which serves as a directory for job, internship and geographical networking contacts, exists for students and alumni—but few are using it.

The Elon Town Center will soon welcome another restaurant, Pandora's Pies. The restaurant, which is still under construction inside, will feature specialty pizzas, salads, soups, bruschetta and a small bar.
