The Elon University men’s soccer team concluded its regular season with a 4-3 win over the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in a wildly entertaining, back-and-forth game at Rudd field.

The Elon University men’s soccer team has a unique mix of international players on their roster, all of whom have a story to tell about how they wound up playing for the Phoenix. But none of them have a story quite like the one junior forward Caue Da Silva has. From Southern Brazil to Elon, N.C. — with a stop in the Mississippi Delta wedged in between — Da Silva’s passion for the game has taken him on a path few others has ventured.

Elon University men’s soccer midfielder Danny Lovitz was tired of losing to Coastal Carolina University. The senior had been through all four of the team’s previous meetings — all win for the Chanticleers — in the last two years, including in the last two NCAA Tournaments. Tuesday, Oct. 29, he had a score to settle. He didn’t want his final meeting with the Chanticleers in his last year in the maroon and gold to end in the same heartbreaking fashion as the previous four.

The Elon University men’s soccer team has fallen on hard times in the past few weeks. After going 9-1-1 in their first 11 games, the Phoenix have dropped three of their last four, all of which, it should be pointed out, were on the road. What’s more, the first of the Phoenix’s losses was against then No. 22-ranked Furman University, a result that will do nothing but help their strength of schedule going forward.

It was fitting the first team the Elon University men’s soccer team played in its final Southern Conference opener was its bitterest of rivals and a school jumping conferences like the Phoenix after the 2013-2014 academic year.

Three of the NFL's AFC teams — the Miami Dolphins, Cleveland Browns and Kansas City Chiefs — have surprised many with their play this season. Two of the three, with the exception of the Dolphins, are tied or in sole possession of first in their division. Miami, at 3-1, is a game back of the New England Patriots, who are a surprise front-runner in their own right after losing so many playmakers on offense this past offseason.

The Elon University men’s soccer team defeated Campbell University 1-0 in a game not unlike most of the Phoenix’s seven previous wins Tuesday Oct. 1. It was another win in which the Phoenix could only manage one goal and another game in which they had to protect a one goal lead for the majority of the second half.

The Elon University men’s soccer team scored early and often, trouncing High Point University 4-1 Saturday Sept. 29 to improve to 7-1-1 on the season.

Let’s get one thing straight: I’m a New York Giants fan. Always have been, always will be.

The Elon University men’s soccer team beat the Radford University Highlanders 1-0 in a tightly contested non-conference game at Rudd Field Wednesday Sept. 25. If that score sounds familiar, it’s because the Phoenix have made a habit of winning tight games this season.

Playing for the first time since entering the national polls ranked No. 24, the Elon University men’s soccer team followed up its win over highly-touted University of North Carolina Wilmington with a 1-0 win over No. 9 Wake Forest University, generally regarded as one of the best teams in the country.

The Elon University men’s soccer team is beginning to earn a reputation for two things: winning home games against ranked or high-profile opponents, and having a loud, vocal crowd circling the perimeter of Rudd field, creating a definite home field advantage.

At most schools across the nation, men’s soccer is a secondary sport that attracts only a fraction of the crowds that football, men’s basketball and baseball programs draw. The exceptions to the rule are the elite programs — usually the top 10 to 15 teams in the country — who will play in front of a several hundred fans per game on any given night. What do those teams have that other programs don’t? The answer is sustained success.

Anyone who watched last week’s game between the reigning world champion Baltimore Ravens and the Denver Broncos saw how little this year’s Ravens team mirrors the team that lifted the Lombardi trophy last year in New Orleans.

Senior midfielder Daniel Lovitz of the Elon University men’s soccer team is a man of many talents, most of which he’s put in his rearview mirror as he prepares for his last season in maroon and gold. But as he looks back on his time as a martial arts student, he recalls his passion for the activity he had once vehemently pursued — and it’s not exactly mainstream.

After a winless preseason and a draw on opening night against Northeastern University, the Elon University men’s soccer team found the win column on Sunday Sept. 1 against Rutgers University at the Duke Classic in Durham.

The Southeastern Conference — or more specifically, the University of Alabama — has dominated college football like few teams or leagues have ever dominated before in recent years. Everyone knows the incredible run the conference has been on in the last eight years, a period of time in which an SEC team has taken home the national championship title.
