The Elon University baseball team lost to East Carolina University 10-3 at Latham Park Friday afternoon.

Starting pitcher Matt Harris received his first loss of the season after giving up seven runs off 10 hits in six innings of work.

East Carolina got off to a fast start in the game after scoring a run in both the first and second innings that included a home run from sophomore second baseman Charlie Yorgen.

The Phoenix tied things back up in the second inning when junior infielder Joey Tomko hit a triple, and eventually scored after a groundout by senior catcher Chris King. In the third inning, King would knock in another RBI with a single to center field that scored a runner from third.

The Pirates offense came alive in the fifth inning after taking the lead again in the fourth, scoring four times after a 2 RBI triple from ____ and a two-run homer by junior first baseman Luke Lowery made it a 7-2 game.

East Carolina would tack on three more runs in the eighth and ninth inning to seal the seven run victory over Elon.

The two teams will meet again tomorrow at Latham Park for the second game of the three-game series. First pitch time has been rescheduled to 4:30 p.m.
